The Weimar Triangle and Ukraine
Models of Cooperation between East and West

international conferences
...edition 2002...
...edition 2003...

Ten years after the formal creation of the Weimar Triangle, the countries included in this alliance face entirely new challenges. The questions concerning further cooperation between France, Germany and Poland in a united Europe are raised. These are accompanied by more questions concerning possible support for Ukraine - the eastern neighbour of the Weimar Triangle countries, the relationship with the Visegrad Group countries and finally a platform for future cooperation with other EU countries.

The participants in this long-term programme, which comprises a cycle of seminars and conferences, are divided into thematic workgroups. The viewpoints that emerge in workgroups are later presented to all participants in the meeting. Tangible results of the project include post-conference publications and specific agreements concerning cooperation between participating institutions and organisations.

The conferences, held in 2002 and 2003, were attended, inter alia, by Polish and Ukrainian Ministers for European Integration - Danuta Hübner and Oleksandr Chalyi, former Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Borys Tarasyuk, former President of Romania, Emil Constantinescu, Polish Ambassador to Ukraine, Marek Ziółkowski, Consul General of France Michel Raineri, representatives of the EU and Council of Europe as well as numerous enterprises and non-governmental organisations from Germany, France, Poland, Ukraine and Romania
