Homines Urbani Grantees 2007

MARTA DZIDO, born in 1981, a writer and a student at the Film/TV Cinematography Department of the Polish Filmschool Lodz. She made her debut with a mini-novel about abortion "Ślad po mamie" (Mom's trace), published in the anthology "Proza życia" (The prose of life) (2003) and issued as a separate book in 2006. The novel "Małż" (Mussel) (2005) was her debut book. It was a kind of a publishing phenomenon bacause the book was published in two versions: the brown and blue from May finishes quite grimly, whilst the June version - purple and celadon - finishes in an optimistic way. She published in "Ha!art" and "Lampa". She is also an author of short films: "Jeden dzień z życia małej dziewczynki" (One day in the life of a little girl) (2002) and "To my" (It's us) (2004). She works for the Polish TV station TVP Kultura.

LUCY FRICKE, born in 1974 in Hamburg, lives in Berlin. She co-operated at the production of numerous cinema and TV films. She studied at the German Institute of Literature in Leipzig (DLL). In the years 2005-2006 she worked with the editorial staff of "Tippgemeinschaft" - an anthology of authors studying at the DLL. She received a scholarship of the 9th Klagenfurt Literature Course organized within the framework of the Ingeborg Bachmann Literary Prize competition (2005). In 2005 she also produced a short film "Der Krake", she was awarded first prize in the "open mike" literary competition of young German literature in Berlin and received a literary promotion prize of Carinthia. After receiving a diploma of the DLL, she participated in the "Young literature in Europe" conference in Greifswald. She published, among others in the "Die horen" magazine. Her literary debut, the novel "Durst ist schlimmer als Heimweh" (Longing is worse than homesickness) will be published in autumn 2007 in the Piper Publishing House.

OLEH KOCARIEW, born in 1981 in Kharkiv. Graduated in journalism from the Kharkiv State University (at the moment a PhD student). A poet, prose writer, critic, essayist, laureate of "Смолоскип" ("Torch") and "Молоде вино" ("Young Wine") literary awards. Author of the collection of poems "Коротке і довге" ("Short and Long") (Kiev 2003) and numerous publications in magazines and anthologies, among others, in the "Critic" magazine, Ukrainian literary portal www.proza.com.ua, Ukrainian and German poetry anthology "10 ЄВРОпейців -10 EUROpäer", and the "Poetry No 1" anthology. He participated in many cultural and literary events: 1st International Literary Festival in Lviv, "Page No. 9" (Odessa), "In the name of culture" (Kharkiv), "East Wind" (Ivano-Frankivsk), "Tractor - Festival of Optimism" (Kiev), "Strong male poetry" (Kiev), and "Asian Renaissance" (Donetsk).

ZBIGNIEW M AS TERNAK, born in 1978 in Piórków (Świętokrzyskie Mountains). He studied law at the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin and Polish language at Wrocław University. A prose writer, playwright, and screenplay writer. He made his debut in "Twórczość" in 2000. In 2005, his short story "Stacja Mirsk" (Mirsk Station) was adapted for a film (of which Masternak was co-producer). The film was awarded Grand Prix and the 9th Krakow Film Festival "KRAKFFA". At present, he is working on a novel cycle "Księstwo" (Duchy). Two books of the cycle "Niech żyje wolność" (Long live freedom) and "Chmurołap" (Cloud catcher) were published by Zysk i S-ka Publishing House in 2006. Another two - "Scyzoryk" (Pocketknife) and "Nowe niebo, nowa ziemia" (New sky, new land), the latter written together with his wife Renata - will be published in 2007. This year, film director A. Barański will adapt "Niech żyje wolność" for a film "Księstwo".

JASNA MITTLER, born in 1975 in Neuwied. She studied cultural studies and pedagogy of culture and the Hildesheim University. Since her graduation in 2002, she has run workshops and seminars on "Creative writing". In 2004, she was awarded the Martha Saalfelf literary promotion prize of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2005, her debut book "Der heilige Erwin" (Saint Erwin) was published, translated subsequently into Korean. Her short story "Die Patin" (Godmother) was awarded second prize in the "Agatha-Christie-Krimipreis" competition in 2006. She published in many magazines and anthologies, among others, in "D AS MAGAZIN. Die Lust zu Lesen" (2004, Berlin) and "Literaturjahrbuch 11" (2005, Frankfurt/Main). At present, she is working on a collection of short stories "Fremde Freunde" (Strange friends) and a crime story "Ich sehe was, was du nicht siehst" (I see what you can't see). She lives in Cologne.

 

SIARHIEJ PRYLUCKI, born in 1980 in Brest, Belarus. Graduated from Brest University in 2004. A poet, prose writer, and translator of English, Polish and Ukrainian. Laureate of "Atalia Arsienniewaj" (2002), "Uladzimier Karatkiewicz" (2004) and "100 years of our field" (2006) literary competitions, organized by the Belarusian PEN-Club. He participated in several international poetry competitions, among others, "Парадак слоў" (Minsk, 2006), "НАЛІТ" (Lviv, 2006), and "Druskininkai Poetic Fall"
(
Druskininkai-Vilnius, 2006). He published his works in anthologies, the press and magazines; among others in "Nasza Niwa" and "Arche". At present, he is working on a collection of poems "Dziewięćdziesiąte forever" (The 1990s forever) and translating Wisława Szymborska's poems into Belarusian.
