HOMINES URBANI 2006 SPRING

Agnieszka Drotkiewicz, born in 1981. Author of the novel "Paris, London, Dachau". She is doing her degree in Cultural Studies at the Warsaw University, where she completed her degree in international relations. Agnieszka Drotkiewicz has conducted a wide range of interviews with the Ukrainian authors published in "Gazeta Wyborcza" national daily. She lives in Warsaw. Drotkiewicz is working on her second novel.

Thomas Escher, born in 1975. He is a Creative Writing student at the German Institute of Literature in Leipzig. He published several poetry books that also were partially reprinted  in the anthology edited by the National Library of German poetry in 2004. In 2001 his poetry book entitled "Linie 72" was released. He has been working on a novel telling a story of a young man who is searching his roots, forgotten (unrevealed) traces of his family.

Juhasia Kalada, born in 1981 in Belarus. Lawyer, and also writer and poet. She has a wide range of publications in magazines and anthologies. In 2005 she wrote a controversial novel "Der Grundfehler von Afanasij" which was a "literary scandal of the decade" in Belarus.

Thomas Podhostnik, born in 1972. He did his degree in directing, sociology, politics, and in creative writing. Scriptwriter, and film director (he directed over 30 documentary movies). He has got publications in several anthologies, and he has cooperated with the literary magazine "Edit". Since 1999 he has worked as a free-lance writer.

Natalka Sniadanko, born in 1973. Ukrainian writer, literary critic, journalist, translator and interpreter (Ukrainian, German, Polish). She lives in Lviv. In 2001 was released her novel "Kolekcja namiętności" [published by Piramida Publishing House, Lviv]. In 2005 her translation of Franz Kafka's novel "The Castle" was published. It is the first translation of the novel into Ukrainian.

Michał Witkowski, born in 1975. Writer, journalist. He holds a degree in Polish studies at the Wroclaw University. Author of the novel "Lubiewo" (published by Ha!art, 2005) including an audio version read by Witkowski. For his debut book "Copyright" he was awarded with the Prize "The book of year" presented by "Przegląd Poznański" magazine.  He has numerous publications in German literary magazines and anthologies, i.e.: "WIR", "Muschelhaufen" and "Lauter Niemand".

HOMINES URBANI 2006 AUTUMN

Andrej Chadanovich, born in 1973 in Minsk. Poet, poetry translator, essayist, university teacher (history of French literature, world literature, translation practice). Member of the Board of the Federation of Belarussian Writers and Belarussian PEN-Club. He translates poetry from English, Polish (i.e. Gałczyński, Miłosz, Herbert, Twardowski), Russian, Ukrainian (i.e. Andruchovich, Zadan), French. Author of the following poetry books": "Stare wiersze" (2003), "Listy spod kołdry" (2004), "Rodacy lub limeryki białoruskie" (2005) and "From Belarus with love" (2005). His poetry book "????? ?-??? ??????", published in 2002, included translation into Ukrainian. In 2006 his poetry book was translated into Polish language "Święta Nowego Rocku". His poems have been translated into English, Lithuanian, Latvian, German. He lives in Minsk.

Nicolai Kobus, born in 1968. Poet, critic, copywriter. He holds a degree in music sciences, German studies and philosophy at the Münster University. The Laureate of the numerous literary prizes, i.e. the Wolfgang Weyrauch Prize presented by the city of Darmstadt in 1999, the Literary Prize of the Association for Promoting Westfalen Culture in 2004 and in 2005 the Ernst Meister Prize presented by the city of Hagen. Tanja Malarczuk, born in 1983 in Ivano-Frankivsk. She graduated from the National University in Ivano-Frankivsk (Ukrainian studies). Currently she works as TV journalist of Kanal 5. Her texts were published in the well-known Ukrainian literary magazine "Czwartek" (editor-in-chief Jurij Izdryk) and in the "Krytyka" magazine. She wrote two novels: "Szach i mat Adolfo albo Róże dla Lizy" (2004), "Z góry na dół. Księga strachów" (2006). She lives in Kiev.

Mirek Nahacz, born in 1984 in Gorlice. He is doing his degree in cultural anthropology at the Department of Polish studies of the Warsaw University. He wrote reviews for the magazine "Lampa", "Filipinka", essays: "2025" (Almanac "Young Euro Connect 2005", the publication on the occasion of the young European writers' forum, Berlin 2005), "Gdzie ukrył się szatan" (Lampa nr 10/2005). He is co-author of the TV serial script "Egzamin z życia" (TVP2). Author of the novel (published by the Czarne Publishing House): "Osiem cztery" (2003), "Bombel" (2004), "Bocian i Lola" (2005).

Katja Thomas, born in 1980 in Gotha (Saxony). She holds a degree in German studies, journalism and communication. Since 2005 she has been studying Creative Writing at the German Institute of Literature in Leipzig. Experiences as journalist: "Thüringer Landeszeitung" in Gotha and "Ostseezeitung" in Greifswald. Her texts were published in anthologies and magazines: "Teksty młodego forum literatury Hesji-Turyngii"; "Zeichen und Wunder", "Zeitschrift für Kultur", "L. Der Literaturbote". She lives in Leipzig.

Serhij Zadan, born in 1974. Poet, writer, performer, film director. Author of several poetry books, i.e. "Big Mac" (2003), a novel "Depeche Mode" (2004), "Anarchy in Ukr" (2005) and "Hymn demokratycznej młodzieży" (2005). He has created a new concept, a new stile in poetry - he was succeeded in combining the tradition of Ukrainian poetry (especially futurism) and the elements of punk subculture with symbolic industrial space of urban landscapes. The laureate of several prizes i.e. Bu-Ba-Bu awarded for the best poem of the year 1998. He lives in Kharkov.
