Creative scholarships 2009
10 March 2009 - deadline to send applications

The Villa Decius Association and the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation invite writers and translators from German-speaking countries to send applications for a residential stay under the programme Homines Urbani at the Villa Decius in Cracow. The motto in 2009 is literary translation.

In cooperation with the Instytut Książki, the Swiss Foundation for Culture Pro Helvetia, the UNESCO Chair for Translation Studies and Intercultural Communication of the Jagiellonian University and the Goethe Institute in Cracow we are organising lectures and meetings on literature and workshops with writers and translators awarded a scholarship. The programme is addressed to young adepts of the art of translation. Likewise an attempt will be made to raise the interest of Polish and international publishing houses in the scholarship holders' works.

The period of the scholarship comprises between one and three months. Applications should be sent by e-mail to the address of the project coordinator given below. Deadline: 10 March 2009.

WHO CAN APPLY

• writers from German-speaking countries;
• translators of German-language literature to Polish;
• translators of Polish-language literature to German.

WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP INCLUDE

• dwelling in the Dom Łaskiego, an historical house that is part of the palace and park ensemble Villa Decius in Cracow (single rooms with bathroom and free internet access,  shared kitchen: www.villa.org.pl)
• monthly scholarship of 3.000 Złoty (gross)
• support by the Villa Decius Association with the preparation of the stay, arrangement of writers' meetings, lectures and workshops as well as contact with publishers and literary critics.

HOW TO APPLY

• Individual applications including a photocopy of an identity document, CV, list of translations/publications, motivation letter and professional plans for the stay should be sent by e-mail to renata@villa.org.pl until 10 March 2009.
• The decisions about the beneficiaries will be announced until 30 March 2009.
