The 8th edition of the Visegrad Summer School

[2009-06-15] The Inauguration of the 8th edition of the Visegrad Summer School will be held on 29th of June 2009 at the Villa Decius in Krakow. This year's School will be opened with a lecture entitled ‘Legacy of Freedom’ by Professor Maciej Koźmiński, Director of the Institute of Diplomacy Collegium Civitas. Due to the meeting marking the completion of Czech European Union presidency hosted by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Lech Kaczynski, the opening panel debate ‘The need for European remembrance’ in which the Ambassadors were supposed to participate was rescheduled and will be held on July the 8th.

Master Classes for singers at Villa Decius in Krakow, Poland
24-28 August 2009

[2009-06-05] The master classes for singers will be held within the framework of the International Summer Academy of Arts at Villa Decius in Krakow from 24-28 August 2009. The classes are conducted by an outstanding educator and a world famous soprano soloist Professor Alison Pearce from the Royal Academy of Music in London. Artistic workshops will be held at halls of renaissance palace, environment of the Villa and its historical garden will foster concentration and creativity.

Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize, UN high Commissioner for Human Rights 6th Edition

[2009-05-04] Following the initiative of the Villa Decius Association Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize was established in the year 2003 with an aim to promote democracy and tolerance, and to pay tribute to Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Prize is awarded for special merits in peaceful coexistence and cooperation of communities, religions and cultures. Following the initiative of the Villa Decius Association Sergio Vieira de Mello Prize was established in the year 2003 with an aim to promote democracy and tolerance, and to pay tribute to Sergio Vieira de Mello, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Prize is awarded for special merits in peaceful coexistence and cooperation of communities, religions and cultures. The Prize is awarded annually in two categories: 1) a person, 2) a non-governmental organisation. Candidates for the Prize might be from Poland and abroad.

Gardens of creativity
12 June 2009, 7 P.M.

[2009-04-25] As part of the Krakow Theater Night, Villa Decius Association invites you for a unique artistic happening entitled "Draughts". Historic area of the Renaissance Villa Decius building will be a site of  the performance specially arranged for this particular place. Various rooms will represent a challenge for artists to create new theatrical creations. The Cricot 2 Theater actors and the Theater MIST actors will lead the audience in the mystic journey through the historic halls.

Professor Timothy Garton Ash, Triumph to crisis? Europe 1989-2009

[2009-04-20] Professor Timothy Garton Ash – the Oxford University’s lecturer, international policy, human rights and Central Europe expert is going to deliver a lecture on the subject of the situation of Poland and Great Britain in the changing Europe. The event will inaugurate the Polish-British Round Table Debates, which are going to take place in Villa Decius in Krakow.

Update

[2009-04-16] Like every year, the Visegrad Summer School has attracted lots of students. We have been much impressed by the interests, education and experience of the applicants. Organizers together with project’s partners selected participants from Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine as well as from Belarus, Georgia, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Romania and Russia. We also wish to thank those who we could not accept this year. We are planning to organize the 9th edition in 2010, so please check the announcements next February-March. Villa – Art - World . "Mali. There, where the stars sing"

[2009-04-15] As part of a longstanding series of programs entitled Villa – Art – World dedicated to presenting the culture of different non-european countries Villa Decius Association would like to present chosen elements of Mali Republic’s culture. During the next meeting in Villa Decius called “Mali. There, where the stars sing”, which is due to take place on 10th May 2009, we are going to introduce the history and cultural diversity of Mali Republic.
